F3 (Fight/Flight/Freeze) - Stress and trauma-induced fear creates anxiety in students, making it difficult to prioritize learning. These emotions cause a chemical response that set off a chain of events, activating the warrior (survival) brain. How can students manage the fight/flight/freeze response in order to be their highest and best self, even when they don’t feel like it? is an engaging 3 to 6-hour workshop for students focused on understanding the “fight, flight or freeze” stress response system. Students are introduced to the concept of chemical manipulation, the process in which past experiences induce chemical responses that manipulate present day behavior. Students are equipped with strategies to establish self-management skills, mindfulness techniques, and de-escalation methods, encouraging personal responsibility to escape a sense of victimization.
- Students will take an in-depth look at the brain that provides understanding about (dis)stress and its association with the chemical impact on decision-making and behavior.
- Students will develop an understanding about past events and their role in present-day behavioral patterns.
- Students will develop an understanding of the fight/flight/freeze response system and acquire self-management techniques that minimize negative impact.
- Foster social and emotional competencies in students that builds capacity for self-management and personal responsibility.
- Acquire techniques for managing overwhelming emotional reactions.
- Learn how the physiological effect perpetuates dysfunctional behavior and bad choices through the repeating of past experiences.
